Brest

The regional capital and port city in Brittany has a rich maritime past with its naval base. It is even within Brest that the Musée National de la Marine (naval museum) is located.

Positioned at the tip of Brittany, Brest remains a city full of charm and authenticity, with its many activities, which will please young and old in equal measure!

Dive into the fascinating life of the sea bed in Océanopolis; with its 76 aquariums this park of discovery of the marine environment is the most visited tourist site in Brittany.

An iconic cultural location in Brest, the Ateliers des Capucins was formerly solely the naval dockyard but, despite its active naval significance, is now also being developed as a cultural and shopping centre. It offers an exceptional view over the Penfeld river estuary, the Tanguy medieval tower and the harbour. The new multi-media library nearby is a public location rich in discoveries and items to exchange: lectures, reading rooms, relaxation areas, everything has been thought out to accommodate the public in Brest.

For history lovers, the medieval Brest castle is open to you and houses the Musée National de la Marine (the naval museum). In going there, you will have the opportunity to explore the city’s maritime past. The keep and the ramparts enable you to admire the architecture of the castle, which was destroyed by the Second World War and then rebuilt over the years.

With its two marinas, Brest is considered as the leading yachting resort in Brittany. A little further on, the Brest harbour is a genuine nautical stadium of 180 km², and the perfect place for many nautical activities. Surfing, a boat trip, windsurfing, stand-up paddle boarding, scuba diving – so many possibilities are on offer to you.
